I just lightly do it throughout the tracks but I was wondering if there are any smoother ways to get the tempo raised or lowered

You can use a bunch of short tracks that are a couple BPM different than each other to get to the desired BPM. Not sure if that's what you meant by your post or not. That's how I do it, but you can also use some tracks with varying BPM to switch BPMs. Tracks like these tend to be a good amount different ~30BPM, but it does transition smoothly to new tempos.

All depends on how much you wanna raise/lower your tempo. For a few BPM, just slowly move the pitch slider during the song. If you're doing more drastic changes, you'll need to get creative and use loops or samples, clever transitions, or transition tracks.

Depends on the drastic nature of the change... Loop it up...

u can usually get a song +/- 10 bpm throughtout a minute or two very slowly and it sounds smooth.. just make sure you have your key lock on. Or what ive done before is loop a section of the song, speed up the tempo greatly and create somewhat of a buildup, then when its at desired bpm drop the second track with same bpm.

i usually use slow breakdowns and widemode on my CDJs. when done right you can easily pull off a 110 to 128BPM transition like that.

I usually make very small adjustments in a song. breakdowns with no percussion you can usually adjust a little more

Keylock and gradual changes. Practicing transitions is where the work is...

One technique I've seen to go from 128 to 130 quickly was using the filter. Right at the end of a phrase (eg 4 bar loop) they put a huge filter over the top, nudge the pitch up, then take the filter off when the new bar starts. This hides the speed change smoothly because filters wash the sound out alot
