Hi,

I'm fairly new to traktor and have been a user of VDJ for some years now. The main thing that seems to be missing from Traktor is the first bar indicator. In VDJ after every fourth beat it has a bigger square on the bottom of the beat grid, but with Traktor there's nothing, so when scrolling through a song its sometimes hard to see or hear where the beginning of a bar starts, which comes in handy with some acappelas etc..

Is this a hidden thing on traktor or have they just not implemented it? if not, why?

Heres what I mean (includes my own bar markers on the last grid as an example):

Cheers in advance and sorry if its a Noob question, as I say, I'm just starting out on Traktor and loving it, but missing this simple display feature!

Not visually, but Traktor does have a "Beats" tool that will count the bars for you under Preferences > Decks

Time to learn beatmatching and phrasematching. Gridding stuff is a waste of time, as in time not spent training your ears. Before some jump on the banwagon, yes I do agree it can be a useful tool on uneven tracks such as "We will rock you" by Queen but then I would say warp your tracks under Ableton and carry on beatmatching yourself. The majority of music nowadays is dead on beat, so that's even easier.

Believe it or not, it's actually easier to beatmatch an acapella since being on it's on your won't have any clash elements if you're doing it right. Just listen to the structure of the music itself so you won't have to rely on little red dots in order to know the bars.

I agree with learning to beatmatch, that's why I did it with my 1210's ;-)
My main use for the bar markers is that I use the loop function a fair bit on older disco tracks, and sometimes might make a loop on the fly if I think another point might be more useful before a break etc, so when looping out its good to have visual confirmation its gonna slip in as planned.

I'm in the process of warping most of my stuff as Ableton is great for loops and most of the effects are syncd to the beatgrid it seems. I'd have chosen Serato if I wanted to carry on like I used to but like to mix it up with loops and the like now :-)

Agreed, it does sound like you need more ableton... It's the same old story every time your change gear of software, there are features you got used to implying that you will need a little time readjusting.

IMHO, the first bar indicator is nice, but not critical. On a side-bar, the ability to have flexible beat grids is killer. I can't believe that Traktor hasn't implemented them yet. ITCH, Torq, and Ableton have them.

But on a second hand they can be re-adjust manually. You just have to listen by ear where the first beat is and also make sure that the BPM is right.
