Hi people i'm new here. Been reading this forum for the past couple of weeks and looking at beginners guides and hints and tips etc. I'm wanting to buy my own decks for home usage for experimenting. I've had my eye on the Numark n4, comes with serato dj intro software for £329. My budget can go upto £400 possibly.

I've currently got a surround sound system set up in my bedroom (Yamaha RX-V367). It'd be nice to see some of what you guys think and if there are any better suggestions. Thanks. :)

Seems like you are going the right direction with the controller thing. Don't know anything about the N4, but as long as you do your research you can't go far wrong with controllers. If I had to pick one controller at that sort of price point I would probably go for the NI S2 (http://www.decks.co.uk/products/native_instruments/Traktor_Kontrol_S2). Get a lot of bang for your buck with that thing, I've seen a few of them in the wild and they seem like really nice pieces of kit.
I too would recommend looking at the S2 because it comes with the full version of Traktor - see if other controllers offer full versions.

Just remember to switch it to "direct" mode (which turns off extra processing) when recording as surround modes introduce delays.
