Hey guys,

I'm an old member from 1.0, old username was TheBlob. I didn't contribute to the forum a lot, but I liked reading the threads.

I began mixing about 4 years ago, starting at university parties, then got a residency in a club for about a year or so. In between I've been doing house parties and stuff, like businesses christmas parties and proms. I started wanting to be a club/rave DJ but it seems I've more or less taken the mobile DJ road.

I use VDJ 5 and a Hercules MK2 controller, and I don't know how to beatmatch (I know you guys will hate me for this :P). I've always wanted to take the time to practice it but from my experience the most important thing is what songs you choose to play, not how well you mix them in, so I kind of concentrate (I don't have that much time to put into it) about finding new music, and organizing my collection.

When I will have some more free time I would like to practice some mixing techniques on actual CDJs (will have to buy them also), and try to make it into one of the town's clubs.

So that's pretty much it about me. It's good to be back on the forums :)

Thanks guys!

Do you know what happened for the forum to go from 1.0 to 2.0. What exactly is this change all about?

Welcome back Nadon! Not for sure on why such a long break between 1.0 and 2.0 and what changed, just glad to finally have the forum back.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about getting the residency with you using a controller and not beatmatching? Also, was the residency a good experience? Don't mean those questions in a disrespectful way, just generally curious.

I don't take them in a disrespectful way at all. After all, a forum is used to share information :)

Well I got the residency because my then girlfriend was good friend with the DJ of the only club in that small town. I got to know him and ******ly told him I wanted to be a DJ. After 10 years of being pretty much the only DJ there, he wanted to retire and he asked the owner of the club if she wanted to try me out. By the way, back then I didn't even have a controller. I DJ'd with VDJ and a mouse :P

As for how the residency went, it didn't really go that well. It was one of my first experience DJing and I wanted to be a House/Electro DJ, and this was a Top 40 club. I didn't still understand the meaning of "It's easier to play what they love than to make them love what you play." and I was convinced that if I played enough House they would finally love it...

Also, my mixing skills were awful and I got way too drunk to act professional. I honestly still don't get why I kept the residency for that long, although I can't say my dance floor was that empty, and I can say I seriously rocked the place a couple of times. When I lost the job it was a good slap in the face, and I learned a lot while working there as well as when I lost the residency. Had a lot of fun there too, so overall I'm very grateful to have had this whole experience.

I hope to get back in the game, get my mixing skills up, buy some gear and maybe some time get a residency at some place :O
