Defiance

I ran into an issue during the time DJF was down that I thought I'd bring up.
I was doing a tag-team setup with two other DJs, we setup on a small 15ft stage, they shared equipment on one side and I had my own on the other side. They had a monitor setup behind them so it was pretty far from me to be useful.
I was having an awful time beatmatching to their beats, even with knowing the bpm, I was only about 50% of the time on it. They didn't have any issue as I ran my equipment into their mixer so they could cue it without the monitor anyways, the actual speakers were also a bit infront of us, so that didn't help much.
At what distance does the monitors actually make it harder to mix into? Granted, it was my first time doing this so it was new to me and I'm not a pro at beatmatching anyways but I feel like I can do it at home and by myself no problem.
