I've never played a trance set.

I want to do a trance battle - who should I challenge?

Probably me

Yeah, sure. Let's do it.

I don't know anything about the genre. Nothing.

What is the proper length for a trance battle? I own zero trance tracks, but I'm not trying to drop a huge chunk of change just to pick up tracks for this battle.

Thought about doing something like this as well.

In the meantime you should go vote in the deep house battle :-!

I'd say 45 minutes would be a fair length for trance, though I could probably squeeze a 25-30 minute mix. You usually want something like intro->build->build->epic breakdown track->high energy->build->build etc

You should totally do this guy  He'd definitely "show you the ropes" :teef:

Yeah, perhaps. I don't know if his signature is a credible source, but it says he won the trance tournament.

I'll battle anyone - this is just for fun. If I have to take on the two time defending champ...well, I better be on my game.

he won it on a stipulation because we let him submit late ;)

Just call someone out. 25-30 minute trance sets are iffy though. I think most people here are long blend type of people and if you don't play certain tracks all the way out IMHO I'm going to be let down.

it's really not much different then the style you use for deep house. Digging for something you like might be the only problem. The prog trance section at beatport is filled with more shit than a cow pasture.

Really? I guess when I think trance, I typically think of the melodic stuff that was popular during the 90s... and that seems hard to blend for 2-3' given how much is going on in the high frequencies and the build ups to peaks.

But, never tried it so I wouldn't know. In fact, dunno how much track is in front if the peak in a trance tracks.

Watch your musical keys and use your eq's. The intros and outros are pretty long because they are designed for this kind of mixing (tracks are generally 8+ minutes with some over 10). The idea with any music (as I'm sure you know) is to mix tracks in a similar way as they are produced. For trance that means build build drop, creating peaks and valleys through your track selection with smooth mixes transitioning one synth line to the next. Also trance is a huge genre with many sub genres, delve into psytrance and you may never find your way out.:D The kind of trance you're talking about, I haven't touched in 15 years.
