Quick, really dumb question probably. Is this (http://www.pssl.com/!mNBw-NgvmkmRAEc1HBiNGA!/American-Audio-DCD-PRO-310-MKII-Dual-CD-Player) a CDJ? I'm honestly not sure what classifies something as being a CDJ. It seems to be-but I'm not sure. I've been using my controller at all of my gigs & I just realized that if this is a CDJ, I actually know how to use them :teef:. Been using it for about 7 months on my campus' radio station.

When I hear CDJ, I think of something like this (http://www.totalsounds.co.uk/images/cdj-2000.jpg) or this (http://www.virtualdj.com/image/85241/4188/radius1000.jpg).

I would consider that more of a table top player or something.

How similar would the one I showed be to something I would find in a club? The only real difference I'm seeing is the loops & effects, which I'm already familiar with through my controller.

In essence they are the same because they both play CDs. I don't think you will find much difference other than the adjustable pitch range, CDJ or Vinyl mode, and start and brake speeds.

The big difference is no vinyl mode. They use what is called a stutter cue.

Also, CDJs are made by Pioneer. Anything else is a CD player.

I'd also venture to guess that those CDJ's wouldn't let you scratch.

I'm surprised none of the purists have chimed in saying only Pioneer makes CDJ's and everyone else makes CD Turntables.

edit* ha. someone posted that just as i posted this.

And Gemini! Whee! :zany:

 I knew there was some other company that used the CDJ name! I couldn't think of who it was.

Normally when most people say "CDJ", they are talking about a tabletop single CD turntable. Not just Gemini & Pioneer DJ CD players.
Nineteen inch rack mounted CD players that play two CDs are normally called "dual CD players".
Record players that have CD players that emulate vinyl (scratch), are normally called "Hybrid turntables".

CDJs are made by pioneer, like you won't see an apple walkman or a sony ipod.

Everything else is a CD player. OP: this is a dual deck CD player.

like you won't see an apple walkmanSony may have had the brand name "Walkman", but everybody called the small personal portable cassette players (later on CD players) that you listened to with headphones, as a Walkman, no matter what brand it was. Very rarely did anybody use the term "personal portable cassette player" or the name any other company gave them.

CDJ is easier to say than "tabletop CD turntable", so most people refer to all tabletop CD turntables as CDJs, not just those that are made by Gemini & Pioneer.

You know what I mean. Haven't seen a tape player in a while now. These don't use tapes, and still won't be labelled or referred to as ipods.

These don't use tapes, and still won't be labeled or referred to as ipods.[/IMG]Unless it's iPod specific related, most people don't even call iPods an iPod. The vast majority of times most people just say "MP3 player" whether it's an iPod, Zune, or something else.

Kind of odd when you think about, since "iPod" is easier to say than "MP3 player".

BTW
I had no idea that Sony called their MP3 players "Walkman" until just now.

(I have a walkman phone). Pretty much, and people don't call their mp3 player ipod, or they would be rectified as in "dude that's not an ipod".

+1, then see the latest behringer nox series. They must have two parrots, 3 monkeys and a kangaroo in their design department.

I find it to be just the opposite, people call whatever MP3 player they have an I-pod. Even in marketing...like when you see a set of speakers that have an 1/8" jack that will plug into anything with a headphone out, they call it an I-pod jack....as if this universal jack will work with only the i-pod....frustrates me to no end...but I'm going off on a tangent.

whenever i think of CDJ i think of pioneers. I have Stanton c.314 cd players and i just say "i dj with cds". i never really end up in a situation where i have to say "i use cdjs" or "i use table top cd players" haha

I guess its all personal preference.
