In the market for a laptop stand, did a bit of research and was curious on why this one (http://www.pssl.com/Pro-Portable-Computer-Laptop-Stand-DJ-Studio) cost originally $60 and this one (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Musician-s-Gear-Laptop-Computer-Stand-450726-i1400658.gc) costs $30 originally but are exactly the same, unless im missing something. If I could get a bit of feedback that would be much appreciated, thanks guys !

Dont waste your money on them. They will bend, distort and they are very sketchy when your laptop is on it. I have 3 name brand ones that are junk. Your laptop is not something to jerk around with. Buy a nice sturdy one like a crane stand

Just bought a crane stand pro at the begining of Nov. Best lappy stand I have used. It costs quite a bit, but its worth it

I went through a couple of Oydessey L-stands (includes mobile ) and a Stanton Uberstand and finally got the Ultimate Support LPT1000 Hyperstation Laptop Stand. It's a beast and I like it over the Crane Pro.

I have had a uberstand, an odessey L stand and now a Crane pro. The uberstand i was always scared it would fall over and running a zip tie every time got old fast, my land isnt to bad but its big and since its not the mobile verison a pain to take any where..

Then i got smart and coughed up the money for a crane.. and i love it.. solid, portable and made in the USA. Its the best stand on the market IMO

I have one of those crappy 30 dollar stands. It bends every time I take it out. But its solid as can be when I have my laptop on it, I feel a lot more comfortable using it than the crane aluminum ones that your laptop sits flat on. I watched in horror as someone hit the bottom of their laptop on the crane and the laptop when over the back towards the crowd and was stepped on or just broke on impact. I would bet it wouldn't of actually fell off (or done it so fast) if it was on an angled stand.

thats why the crane stand pro is the only crane stand to get as it is adjustable...

I didn't realize there were more than one crane stand, the ones I've used have been other peoples, didn't pay attention to models or adjustments :P

I have owned those crappy $30 ones in the past and NO WAY is it better than the Crane. Same thing could happen.

i have one of those

my gripe with those cheap ones, is it is its a pain in the ass to transport, doesnt fold up, needs to be taken apart if you want to adjust it... too much work when i have other things to set up at a gig

the crane just folds out in 2 seconds , does wobble a small bit, but its as versatile and sturdy as you can ask for IMO

I made one from L brackets from Home Depot. 4 10 inch L brackets, 2 8in bar brackets (to brace) 6 bolts, 4 nuts, 2 acorn nuts (these keep the laptop from sliding off. EASY as fuck to put together, easy to take apart, sturdy as FUCK.

@ Rain 91 - yes I did, I will have to find my parts lists - or just type it up for you it is simple. At first I had 2 threaded 10 inch 5/8 pipe, it worked but kinda bounced. If you get the L brackets it is much better.

Keep in mind it will be HEAVY but solid as a house. nothing to worry about with the laptop tipping over AND you can even add another bracket to it in the middle and make a stand for your sound card if you have one. Think laptop stand erector set. :)

You know when you go to say Stator Bros to get a bag of patato chips. Here they are asking $3.50 for it. Then you go to say Walmart. There, they have that same exact bag of potato chips. But they are asking $2.50

Different stores have their own prices.

that may be the least portable stand ever. i will still to ones that just sit on top of the table.

The only laptop stand that I felt was truly impressive was the Crane.

I have the Odyssey L-Stand and it's not bad, but I should have forked out the dough for a better one. The clamps are what get me.

I think it's implied in the first post. Both of the stands the OP showed us are portable stands.

I have had various "portable stands" over the years and I can safely say that this design is sturdy enough for whatever you need it to do.

I don't now what these people do to their stands to make them buckle and bend. At the minute in my student flat I have my DDM4000 on one stand and 2 CDJ 200s on the other. Both get thrown about, especially if i take them to gigs to hold my MBP. Had these for 2 years and still going strong.

With the words NUTS and FUCK stated twice in this post, it MUST be the way to go! So, head to Home Depot, get your science project together and do what FUCK-NUTS said.

I bought an odyssey stand years ago and have barely used it. It's very flimsy and I don't trust putting my laptop up that High. I'd say build one out of pvc that attaches to the table and has a velcro strap around your laptop.

I got the standard Crane Stand for $50 on ebay and I'm very happy with it. It's really solid and you can set it up in 5 seconds.

i have a couple "on stage stands" brand $24.95 ebay laptop stand and it has the extra shelf in the middle
on the top of the stand where the rubber was i removed it and put velcro
two 1" wide velcro strips front to back on the bottom of a full size 17" laptop isn't going anywhere
also i clamp them on the mixer case and have one setup for setting on the table top i dont take them apart never
that just makes em weak they wear out faster

I just purchased the Ultimate Support Hyperstation, eventhough its around 9lbs , it is solid and sturdy as a tank. I had the odessey L stand before and returned it the next day, it was garbage. I cant compare it to the crane stand because I have never owned one, and i needed one in a hurry so i bought what they had in stock. Needless to say i am not dissapointed.
